Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet)

(Munich, May 2008) In Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet), playwright Ann Marie MacDonald takes us on a farce-filled leap into the lives of Shakespeare's two great heroines: Desdemona and Juliet. IThe mousy academic, Constance Ledbelly, is convinced that Shakespeare's two most famous tragedies were originally comedies. By a cosmic twist of fate, Ledbelly finds herself transported - literally! - through her wastepaper basket into the worlds of Othello and Romeo and Juliet where all the world really is a stage: sword-fights, villains, passion, war, ghosts, beautiful women, a masquerade ball, girls dressed as boys, boys in love with girls dressed as boys, girls in love with girls dressed as boys but married to boys in love with girls dressed as boys… and, of course, unrequited love and betrayal. A wonderful romp, you don't have to be a fan of Shakespeare to enjoy this hilarious gender-bending satire about one woman's journey toward self-realization.
