Karen Hines

 
Karen Hines is an award-winning writer, director and performer in film, television and theatre. Chicago-born, Toronto-bred, her theatrical black comedies have been presented across Canada and America, at theatres, literary festivals and comedy clubs. Her acclaimed trilogy, The Pochsy Plays, and her genre-defying satire Hello...Hello have won her a loyal cult following and numerous prizes and nominations including finalist for Canada's Governor General's Award for Drama. A Second City alumna, Ms. Hines has performed in many film and television projects; she co-starred for three seasons in Ken Finkleman's Emmy and Gemini Award-winning television series The Newsroom (CBC/PBS), as well as his Foreign Objects (Rhombus) and Married Life (Comedy Central), for which she was nominated for Gemini and CableACE awards. Ms. Hines is the long-time director of adult horror clowns Mump & Smoot, growing up with them from fringe festivals to Off-Broadway. She has recently directed the first few in what will be a series of short films featuring the character Pochsy. These films are being presented at film festivals around the world, and will soon air on national television.
